Cayos Cochinos All Day Snorkel Trip

Cayos Cochinos is a group of 15 islands in between Roatan and Honduras. It is world famous for it´s marine life and is a UNESCO world heritage site. The reefs of Cayos Cochinos are military protected and visits are strictly controlled by the government of Honduras. The islands have been the site for the TV show Survivor Italy, Survivor France and Surivior Spain. The village on the island of Chachauate has been around since the 1800´s after a slave ship left them stranded. The Garifuna tribe who live on the island dwell in huts and survive off rain water and fresh fish they catch by hand line.

We do 2 trips a week, typically on Wednesdays and Thursdays. It takes an hour to get from Roatan to Cayos Cochinos, about 50% of the time wild dolphins swim with the boat. Once we arrive at Cayos Cochinos we have to register our guests with the marine park office. From there our first stop is the tiny island of Cayos Timone. After playing on the island for a bit you can snorkel the reef. Cayos Cochinos is world famous for its untouched reef system and is studied by a permanent group of marine biologists from the Smithsonian.

After snorkeling you will take a short boat ride to the tiny Garifuna village of Chachahuate for lunch. The village is a third of the size of a football field and has 100 villagers who have been living there since the 1800´s. Lunch will be fresh grilled snapper, plantains and rice cooked Cayos Cochinos style. Lobster is also available, contact us for details. You will then have time to explore the village, meet the locals, take photos, catch a Garifuna dance to African drums and snorkel the beautiful reef around the island. From there you will leave Cayos Cochinos and head back to Roatan. If time permits the captain will drop a couple of lines and do some deep sea fishing.  Though it is rare, we have seen whale sharks and pilot whales on past trips. You will arrive in Roatan between 4-5pm just in time for sunset.

The Cayos Cochinos tour was a dream c

The pristine reefs and the chance to snorkel in this insane reef made it an unforgettable experience for our group of 2 familites. The visit to the Garifuna village was like stepping back in time, and the fresh grilled snapper for lunch was delicious. Highly recommend!

Beautiful but Exhausting!

Cayos Cochinos is beautiful, and the snorkeling was great. However, the boat ride was very long and tiring. The Garifuna village was interesting, but I wish there was more time to relax.

Perfect Honeymoon trip

Cayos Cochinos is a gem. Snorkeling in the protected reefs was breathtaking, with vibrant marine life everywhere. The boat ride was a treat, especially with dolphins swimming alongside us. The Garifuna village added a unique cultural touch to the trip. Absolutely loved it!

Best snorkeling experience ever!

The snorkeling at Cayos Cochinos was simply out of this world. The reefs were teeming with life, and the water was so clear. Meeting the Garifuna people and learning about their history was a highlight. I'd do this tour again in a heartbeat!

This tour exceeded all expectations.

The untouched beauty of the reefs and the fascinating history of the Garifuna village made for a perfect day. Speed boat was great, and crew was attentive. The fresh seafood lunch was the best meal I had during my stay in Honduras. A must-do if you're in Roatan!
